LIGHTBRUSH CLOUD

Lightbrush is used by major video game studios to create texture maps for 3D graphics. It works by separating an image into two layers: an illumination (light/shadow) layer, and a reflection (texture) layer.

Previously, it existed as a desktop app. When Tandent decided that the new version should be web-based and follow a subscription model, I was chosen to design it.

Most of the interaction within the app happens in the primary editing screen. This is where the users mark up the image with indicators that help the algorithm to process it. For example, the Lit Dark Pair tool involves placing a dark square over an area of the photo that is in shadow in dark square over an area that is not in shadow. Other tools include indicating that parts of an image have Same Reflectance, Same Illumination, or Same Texture.
